In addition to networking our members with top-notch aerospace companies, UTK AIAA also prides itself on having a friendly environment and ensuring everyone enjoys growing their professional repertoire through a myriad of activities and experiences. Below are just a few of our favorite moments spent with guest speakers, as well as at social events and company tours!
Distinguished Speakers
Pictured here are our members with astronaut Nicole Stott (Bottom row, center-left), following her distinguished lecture entitled "Nicole Stott: Astronaut, Aquanaut, Artist". Having flown on Space Shuttle mission's STS-128, 129 and 133, and also being a member of ISS Expeditions 19, 20 and 21, Nicole was able to provide us with TONS of personal stories about her adventures in space, and how those experiences have shaped her since.
As you well know by now, one of our primary missions is to establish relationships between our members and aerospace companies that will last a lifetime. Bell Helicopter was kind enough to aid us in achieving that goal, by coming to speak with us about their company, what they produce, and what they are looking for in future employees.
Company Visits
Our 2018-2019 organization trip was to a Boeing 787 Dreamliner facility out in Charleston, SC. Here, we got to hear from UTK alumni who are now full-time employees at this facility, before touring the production line within the campus' manufacturing and assembly building. This was truly an incredible experience for everyone who was involved!
The 2021-2022 organization trip to GE Aviation in Cincinnati, Ohio was made possible by UTK alumni Zach Bolt. Here, we got to see the production of some of the world's most powerful engines, including THE most powerful jet engine, the GE9X. We also heard from many other former and current employees, including former Chief Engineer and member of the National Air and Space Museum, Fred Herzner. It was a wonderful time of learning, networking, and fun!
The 2022-2023 industry trip was to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center! Here we got to tour many of the world's finest and leading facilities for space flight, stand atop a test stand, and hear from distinguished UTK alumni such as Katherine Van Hooser, Chief Engineer at MSFC.
Organization Activities & Social Events
WE. LOVE. RECRUITING. It is a great way for our organization to not only spread the word about our vision, values and mission, but also to grow closer as a community and strengthen friendships. These are some of our members and officers at one of the many engineering engagement events held throughout the school year.
One amazing part of our university's alumni system is their desire to engage with current students. While on our industry visit in Charleston, SC, we had to opportunity to network with the local alumni chapter and enjoy a night on the beautiful Charleston coast.
